YIVO Mourns the Passing of Faige Lederman

YIVO mourns the passing of longtime and cherished staff member Faige Lederman. We send our deepest condolences and sympathies to her brother, Leibel Lederman, and sister, Frieda Weiss, and their families.

Faige worked at YIVO all her life, starting at the young age of 16 years old, and endeared herself to all who knew and worked with her over the years.

Few people knew Yiddish as well as Faige and few people knew the rich variety of authentic Yiddish expressions, and Yiddish folk sayings, which she learned at home from her parents, who were Holocaust survivors.

Faige was a beloved figure at YIVO and we all mourn her passing. She was a gentle, kind, funny, infinitely caring and courageous person with a great heart, a zest for life, and true devotion to YIVO. We will miss her.
