Join us for a talk by Mark Slobin, where he will be discussing his recently published Motor City Music: A Detroiter Looks Back (Oxford University Press, 2018). Motor City Music examines the melting pot of musical life throughout Detroit. By analyzing the diverse pool (Jewish, African American, Southern white) of musical tradition throughout Michigan’s cultural capital, Slobin masterfully combines scholarship, interviews, and archival sources to craft a cohesive picture of the sonic heartbeat of the city.
