Instructor: Lorin Sklamberg

Join YIVO Sound Archivist Lorin Sklamberg for a heymish springtime singing circle surveying Yiddish folk, theater and art songs drawn from over 30 years of collecting. Repertoire will include hitherto unpublished material recorded by the legendary folklorist Ruth Rubin (as presented on YIVO’s Ruth Rubin Legacy online exhibition), Hasidic spirituals notated by the choral conductor/composer Chemjo Vinaver, folk repertoire polished into gems by the remarkable stage performer Isa Kremer and words and music from the pens of singer-songwriters Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman and Josh Waletzky, among others. Song texts in transliteration and translation will be provided; sessions will be illustrated by recordings sourced from the Max and Frieda Weinstein Archive of YIVO Sound Recordings.
